This page is a documentation of my work in the short student film "Boone," produced during the Fall of 2022. Each element of production below is listed in chronological order.
1: Pre-production
After the initial pitch, I quickly expressed interest in helping with the storyboards, and also broadly help as a producer for the film. Working closely with our director, and after great back-and-forths with everyone in the crew, this is what the storyboards for the section I worked on looked like:
Because we had both 2D and 3D animators in our crew, we opted for a mixed visual style: the environments and the young boy character will be in 3D, and the little ghost 2D. Since work on the storyboards was done, the next task I took on was figuring out how the ghost would look like in movement.
2: Production
After some brainstorming, I worked on this quick demonstration on how I would approach the ghost's animation:
As he is a very small, round, and cute character, I felt it important to make his animation feel lively and bouncy. Everyone in the team was happy with how my demo looked like, so I was put in charge of the rough animation for all shots where the ghost is present. After I finished the roughs, I helped the other animators on the clean-up process.
As the days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months, we finally got to the completed film by early November. You can watch it by clicking the image below!
